After 80 years, La Popular still supplies the tamales, tortillas, and fresh masa at the heart of Denver family celebrations

Since 1946, families across Denver have trusted La Popular on Lawrence Street for fresh masa, tortillas, and award-winning tamales. Today, the shop is run by Dan De La Torre, who started making tamales there at 13, spent 33 years as an Aurora firefighter, and came back to carry on his family’s legacy, still using the original family recipes.

With the holiday season approaching, now is the time to order. Christmas Eve is La Popular’s busiest day of the year.
